Event theme: Disposable Lives
The question: Why is the safety of each individual critical to a safe society?
In ‘The Origins of Lynching Culture in the United States,’ Paula Giddings, professor of Afro-American Studies at Smith College, explores one of the most challenging topics in U.S. history: the history and origins of lynching. Here, she discusses how Ida B. Wells, a black female investigative journalist, challenged the entrenched practice of lynching in America.
